In this lesson, you’ll learn how regular verbs change with du. This helps you ask and answer simple questions about what you do.
When the subject is du, many regular verbs end in -st.
So the usual pattern is:
verb ending -en → remove -en → add -st
Examples:
lernen → du lernst
wohnen → du wohnst
kochen → du kochst
spielen → du spielst
Some verbs use -est instead.
This usually happens when the verb stem ends in -t or -d.
Examples:
arbeiten → du arbeitest
reden → du redest
The extra e makes the verb easier to pronounce.
lernen → du lernst
wohnen → du wohnst
arbeiten → du arbeitest
kochen → du kochst
spielen → du spielst
This is a very important beginner pattern.
